About Crop Image

Crop Image lets you visually select the part of a picture you want to keep. Create a selection with the mouse, move the selected rectangle, resize it with the corner handles or enter exact pixel values. Presets make common aspect ratios easy to start from.

Common use cases

Remove unwanted edges

Trim empty space, borders or distracting objects near the outer edge of an image.

Create a target aspect ratio

Reframe photos for social posts, thumbnails, product cards or documents that expect a fixed shape.

Focus attention

Tighten the composition around a product, person, document area or other subject without resizing the subject first.

How it works

1

You define a rectangular crop area over the source image.

2

The browser maps that visible selection back to the original image pixels rather than relying only on the preview size.

3

A new image is created from the selected region and encoded for download.

Privacy & file handling

Cropping is local

The image and crop operation remain online. Only the resulting file is offered back to you for download.

Limitations and important notes

  • Pixels outside the crop are removed from the new file, so keep the original if you may need a different framing later.
  • Cropping does not repair blur or increase detail.
  • Very aggressive crops can leave too few pixels for large displays or printing.

Tips for better results

  • Start with an aspect-ratio preset when you need a profile image, thumbnail or video-style crop.
  • Move the whole selection after sizing it instead of repeatedly redrawing the rectangle.
  • Use the numeric controls for pixel-perfect crops.
  • PNG preserves transparency; JPG fills transparent pixels with white.

Frequently asked questions

Can I adjust the crop after drawing it?

Can I crop to an exact pixel size?

Yes. Enter exact X, Y, width and height values in the controls.

What do the 1:1, 4:3 and 16:9 buttons do?
